Frederikke nyder udsigten

Dagens foto er gået hen og blevet en af mine favoritter fra vores Englandstur. Frederikke sidder i græsset og nyder udsigten fra bakkerne udenfor Macclesfield.

Is that near the Post Office Tower, you know the one you can see when you get near Macclesfield, and you know that you are nearly home?

Yes mum, if you turn 180 degrees you will be able to behold the Post Office tower that you see when you get near Macclesfield and therefore know that you are almost home……

Interesting to compare the photo with Andrew Wyeth’s painting, _Christina’s World_. In this picture the subject is looking toward (and, one assumes, connecting with) the wider world, instead of Wyeth’s subject looking back toward a lone home. There is a spirit of aloneness (not necessarily the same thing as loneliness) and inward-looking in Wyeth’s painting. In this photograph there is a more outward-looking attitude. I like the stark serenity of Wyeth’s admittedly more beautiful painting. I like the optimism of this photograph. You just want to give her one last hug before she starts out on her life’s adventure. You know where Christina is going. But in this photo the possibilities are endless.

Just in case someone is not familiar with the above reference, here are some links to the painting, with information:
