It’s hip to be square – I saw this in a garden and thought that the skeleton like structure would have a nice graphic feel in black and white.

Boy, it’s cold around here…

It looks like winter has decided to stay for a while. I found this view not far from home and do not have much to say about it, except that I liked the dark posts against the ice. I wonder why there is an almost perfect circle around the posts?

One more with birds and branches. I wondered what it would look like if there were different levels of sharpness (or blur depending on how you look at it) in the picture. I pointed the camera up and saw rooks  darting through the frame. This is the one that turned out best.

Photo number two in my new project of square format black and white photographs. With woods close to home it seemed a logical place to go and look for stark, contrasty images. Looking up I noticed how graphic the branches looked against the grey sky above, so I thought I’d take the idea for a spin.

I’ve decided to try something new. For the next month at least, I’m going to focus on shooting in black and white and only post blog photos that are cropped in the square format. Why? Well I’m hoping that this will open up new opportunities as I am forcing myself to think in a different way than usual. With a bit of luck I might even make some nice photos.

This photo was taken about 10 minutes by car from my home. I drive past this mound every day on the way to work.

Oh yes – I’m fooling around with a new template too. I mainly post pictures, so why not let them speak for themselves?
